A vacation to remember

The house was everything that we wanted it to be. It was isolated but in the driving distance to Governor's Harbour at the same time. It was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Wonderfully appointed kitchen, comfortable bedrooms and living area. The view from the deck made it the perfect place for meals or that morning cup of tea. The owner and the caretaker were a joy to deal with.

The peace, the solitude were so refreshing. My favourite part of the day was waking up every morning to the sounds of waves breaking on the beach and the birds starting their morning "concert". I would walk down the path leading to the beach and wait for the sun to greet me with its warm touch.

I think that single moment, in a sense, reminded me of my childhood when life was so simple and without any worries.

We had wonderful time and can not wait to come back next year.

Best of the Bahamas!!

We had come to love Eleuthera and we have enjoyed great success with Home Away and VRBO. Everything came together this time as well to make what was really the perfect trip!!!!! Barbara is the best owner we have ever dealt with! The best! Great, gracious and hepful person!

The property is the best of the bahamas in my opinion. The Atlantic side of the island offers a beautiful breeze most of the time. The beach, the water, the view are both stunning and private. The property is beautiful, clean, very well maintained, inside and out. Private decks everywhere - some obivously built strategically for sunrises or sunsets for example - all with a view!

Privacy and comfort for cozying up or reading a book on the beach, in the hammocks, or on the decks! Great kitchen facilities to eat at home and save some money.

Trails and back roads for walking, hiking or biking for those who need an adventure. Twenty more isolated pristine beaches within a short drive of the house to give you a little variety.

Del the caretaker - wonderful guy - knows the island and offers helpful insight like where to buy the catch of the day off the back of a native's boat!

As I said we loved Eleuthera and now that we found Monticello the love affair is complete! We are home!

Thanks very much Barbara for a spectacular vacation from our clan!

Island paradise

We just returned from a week in Eleuthera & stayed at the Garden of Light house. There were going to be 5 in our party when we rented the house, then it turned out 2 were unable to come so it was just myself, my husband & our daughter. The house more than served our needs, and would have been just fine with all 5 as well. The property is in great shape, has been well maintained, and all the appliances as well as the pots and pans were top-notch. Beds were comfy. And there's a great double kayak (inflatable), snorkel gear, & bikes which looked brand-new.

The owner, Barbara, was a dream to deal with & responded quickly to all of our questions. The caretaker of the house was there to meet us at the airport & even gave us a little tour of Palmetto Point. He waited while we picked up some Kaliks, and then some basic supplies at the local store, before driving us up to the house. I don't think we would have found the house without him. The dirt road to the house was, at first, daunting, but all of the roads that lead to the beaches are primitive & you just take it slow. Having the SUV was a godsend as we were able to get to some fabulous beaches!

The beach at the house was stunning, as are all of the beaches in Eleuthera. It was too windy when we were there to swim at that beach but-- no problem-- we just drove across to the Caribbean side where the water is very shallow and calm, perfect for kids. The beach we were on is wonderful for walking, though, and having a drink or lunch under the palapa hut. And had we not had unusual weather (occasional showers, windy, overcast off and on) it would have been just fine for swimming-- but we enjoyed it anyway to the utmost. Having the SUV, though, allowed us to go exploring and we sought out a new beach every day, each one better than the next. It was nice coming home to the house at night ; very peaceful & quiet. You could hear the ocean & the stars were beautiful. Mornings on the upstairs deck sipping coffee were just great! It was slightly weird having 2 separate apartments for our family of 3, as we spent nights together downstairs then breakfast (and an occasional dinner) upstairs-- but it would be perfect for 2 couples or 2 small groups wanting privacy.

There are lots of great places to sit outside, which is where you'll spend most of your time. Our daughter loved reading a book while relaxing in the hammock! We had a wonderful time at the Garden of Light house & YES we'd recommend it!

A Great Time!

We had a wonderful stay. The beach is about 100 yards from the main house and all the decks and platforms for sunbathing are very nice. The gardens surrounding the main house are very inviting. The guest house sits high atop a cliff with spectacular views. The people are so nice and helpful on the island, including our caretaker for the house. Eleuthera is a wonderful place.

We had a wonderful stay !! thanks for sharing !

We stayed one week in the Garden of Light and all the family really enjoyed it ! our kids (7, 11, 13) stayed downstairs while we stayed upstairs... Both the owner and the housekeeper are very accomodating and responsive. The house is very well equipped and offers a lot of 'accessory' amenities like beach chairs, beach toys, snorkeling gear... The gas BBQ was great also to grill fish, and the outside property is amazing. It seems you would like to stay everywhere at the same time (2 hammocks under palm trees). A charming small path reaches the beach which is very appropriate for kids because the water is not too deep at that point. The place is so quiet ! I would definitely recommend it ! We will surely be back !
